Other bugs

These are some pictures of a BeeKiller (Robberfly). I saw this little gem carrying off one of the girls from the entrance of my observation hive. I tried to get it underfoot but my Jedi reflexes aren’t what they used to be!

I don’t know what type of effect they have on a hive over the long term

This Cowkiller used to hang around the yard a lot. I understand that they prey on bumblebee nests/larvae. I don’t know whether they mess with honeybees. I have heard that their bite will “kill a cow” so I decided to leave it alone as well (being smaller and more like a chicken than a cow).

This is a picture of some giant hornets. These things lived in a nest in a tree and are very impressive to see and hear as the come and go. They are huge…about the size of the first 1-2 joints of my little finger!

I don’t know what type of effect they have on a hive over the long term…I have been told that these are not the Japanese killer hornets but I’d rather not find out. Check out this link for an amazing video of the Japanese hornets at work Bees Battle Hornets from Hell
